New rebate programs are now available to help you upgrade to a high-efficiency electric heat pump — making your home more comfortable year-round while saving on energy costs.

These incentives are offered through BC Hydro, CleanBC Better Homes, and the federal government.

Option 1: BC Hydro Rebates (Standard Rebates – Available Now)

If you own or rent a condo/apartment unit that is electrically heated, you may qualify for BC Hydro’s standard rebates:

Up to $2,500 toward the purchase and installation of an eligible heat pump.
Up to $1,000 toward a heat pump water heater.

Option 2: CleanBC + Federal Top-Up (Better Homes Energy Savings Program)

For income-qualified condo/apartment owners or renters, an even bigger rebate is available:

Up to $5,000 for installing a high-performance electric heat pump.
Applies to buildings up to six storeys that are currently heated by electricity (e.g., baseboards).
Coming Fall 2025: Expansion to include fossil-fuel-heated units (natural gas, propane, or oil).

Eligibility Checklist

To qualify for either program, you must:

Own or rent a condo/apartment unit in a building up to six storeys.
Be the utility account holder (or have written consent from them).
Get strata/landlord approval for the upgrade.
Obtain pre-approval before purchasing equipment.
Use a registered contractor for installation.
