Heat pump rebate questions

BC homeowners can currently use the CleanBC Energy Savings Program (up to $13,000 to switch from gas to an all-electric heat pump for income-qualified households), the FortisBC dual fuel rebate ($4,000, or $8,000 if income-qualified), the BC Hydro and FortisBC Home Renovation Rebate for electrically heated homes ($4,000 whole home or $1,500 partial), and the BC Hydro Condo & Apartment Rebate (up to $2,250). A federal National Heat Pump Rebate of up to $10,000 was announced in October 2026 and is expected to open in early 2027.

Yes. If your household income is within the CleanBC Energy Savings Program limits, you can get up to $13,000 for a central heat pump that replaces your gas furnace, plus up to $3,500 for a heat pump water heater and up to $5,000 for an electrical service upgrade. If you’d rather keep gas as backup, the FortisBC dual fuel rebate pays $4,000, or $8,000 for income-qualified households.

It’s a FortisBC rebate for pairing a heat pump with a new high-efficiency gas furnace. The heat pump handles most of the year and the furnace takes over on the coldest days. You need to be replacing a gas furnace at least 15 years old, and the system must be installed after October 15, 2026 by a registered contractor. The rebate is $4,000, or $8,000 for income-qualified households.

Households with a combined pre-tax income at or below the program’s limits for their household size. For example, a family of four qualifies at Level 3 with income up to $189,800, and at Level 1 with income up to $94,900. Your home’s assessed value must also be under $1.2 million for Levels 1 and 2, or $1.82 million for Level 3. You pre-register online before installation.

BC programs pay only one primary heating rebate per home, so you choose the program that pays the most for your situation. Separate rebates for items like heat pump water heaters, ventilation, insulation or windows can often be added. The upcoming federal rebate is designed to be combined with provincial programs.

The Government of Canada announced the National Heat Pump Rebate on October 8, 2026. It offers up to $10,000 for households below the median after-tax income in their province and $2,000 for others. It’s expected to open in early 2027, and income limits and start dates haven’t been confirmed yet.

Yes. CleanBC, FortisBC and BC Hydro heat pump rebates require installation by a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN). Equinox HVAC is an HPCN-registered contractor and a FortisBC Trade Ally Network member.

Electrically heated condo and apartment suites can get $1,000 for a ductless mini-split or $750 per indoor head, up to $2,250, through the BC Hydro Condo & Apartment Rebate. You need strata or co-op approval and a BC Hydro pre-approval code before work starts. Income-qualified owners may get up to $5,000 through CleanBC instead.

FortisBC’s dual fuel rooftop unit rebate covers 30% of the project cost when a business replaces gas heating with a qualifying hybrid rooftop unit, up to a cap per premise. Your gas account must be on a commercial rate (not Rate 1), and you apply within 365 days of purchase. Non-profits have a separate stream.

With the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, your contractor submits the application and the rebate comes straight off your invoice. FortisBC and BC Hydro rebates are applied for after installation, generally within 6 months, and are paid once the program approves your application, typically within about 90 days.
